Program Descriptions
Regular School Year Objectives
Our migrant focus this year is English Language Arts.
At the K-4 level, Migrant Resource Teachers and/or Migrant Tutors work with groups of students to reinforce the classroom learning in the area of English Language Arts.
At the 5-6 level, a Saturday program has been developed for Migrant students. Students come to the school site and receive instruction in their academic area of greatest need. This is taught by a certificated teacher.
The 7-12 program consists of Migrant Tutorial classes that focus on language development and student homework. At the high school, the teacher also assists students with the PASS program.
Summer School Objectives
During the summer, the migrant program consist of the Continuous Learning Packet program. We hire 2 to 3 certificated teachers to make home visits to those students that are on the Priority For Services list.
These teacher work with the students in completing their packets. We make approximately 200 to 300 visits during the summer.
We send 20 students to the Migrant Scholars program at California State University, Fresno. At the secondary level, we have 25-32 students participate in the Work Study Program.
Students work for 4 hours in the morning and attend summer school in the afternoon. They work on the PASS program with certificated teachers to make up lost credits.

Assessment Tools
Through our student information system (Aeries) we are able to accumulate data of our Migrant students. This data is reviewed by the Migrant Parent Advisory Council on a yearly basis.
The program is developed based on the needs discovered in the evaluation of the data. We have just started our benchmark process using Edusoft.
Four times per year all KUSD students will be taking benchmark tests that are based on the California Content Standards. Each teacher in our district will have access to the results in Edusoft.

The Annual Region IV Migrant Parent Conference sessions included:
- Good Learning Habits;
- Preschool Literacy;
- Help Your Child Succeed;
- Academic Success;
- College Programs; and
- Academic Testing (CAHSEE).
The goal of the conference was "Empowering Migrant Families to Succeed." The focus was to renew the personal commitment of our Migrant parents to ensure their children have access to and receive the best possible education. Due to their migratory lifestyle and the problems with day to day struggles, our families face several barriers such as: language, academic level, and health. The Kerman Unified School District offers support for families with these needs and the opportunity to be involved in their child's education. In additions to this activity, the Kerman Unified School District offers other programs: health clinics, dental clinics, food basket program with the City of Kerman, translation support, transportation to teacher/parent conferences, and our own Migrant Parent Conference in the Spring.
Additionally, Migrant parents attend the Migrant State Parent Conference and the Kerman Unified Migrant Parent Mini-conference.
