Program Descriptions

Regular School Year Objectives

  • Provides supplemental learning assistance to Migrant students with the following:
  • Pre-school liaison working with 4-5 yr olds.
  • Afterschool and Saturday Schools , PASS Program at RHS, Workstudy Program for Migrant High School Students, Migrant Mini-Corp student teacher assistance working directly with Migrant Students. Certificated teacher works with 18-21 yr old Migrant students by providing services at home.

Summer School Objectives

  • Summer School sessions consists of distribution of Continuous Learning Packets (CLP's) to all migrant students.
  • Migrant Scholars at Fresno State
  • Migrant summer school for grades K-5 in Reedley and Orange Cove.
  • Passporte parent education program in Reedley and Orange Cove.
  • Leadership camps at UCLA
  • Migrant High School students assist in summer school as peer tutors.


I & R Process

Identification & Recruitment

  1. Strategies - KCUSD uses are door to door recruitment in large apartments.
  2. Recruitment is also done at RHS Adult School, Back to School Nights at the various school sites in KCUSD.
  3. The times of the year when our district has Migrants moving into our district is during the months of March thru June.

CST, CAHSEE, CELDT, NWEA, DWA, DRA- Student data for these tests is provided by assessments from the Kings Canyon Unified School District's data technician.

  • Oct 17, 2007 - Grant Middle School-6:30-8:00 p.m.
  • Nov 14, 2007- Citrus Middle School-3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Jan 17, 2007- Grant Middle School-3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • March 8, 2008 - Migrant Mini-Conference - Grant Middle School, 8:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. Saturday
  • April 16, 2008 - Reedley High School Cafeteria-6:30-8:00 p.m.
  • May 14, 2008 - Reedley High School Cafeteria-6:30-8:00 p.m.

The referral process consists of :
  1. Health Assessment form is fill out.
  2. Phone contact is made between district liaisons and nurse/health aide at Fresno County Office.
  3. Parent Notification form is filled out by health Dept.
  4. Referrals are made by Kings Canyon Nursing Staff.

Other Programs

KCUSD has various State and Federally funded programs in which Migrant Student participate:

  1. Title 1, Part A Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged and provides supplemental funds educational supplies for disadvantaged students.
    a. Schoolwide programs are used to raise the academic achievement of all student and improve to educational program of the schools (k-8).
  2. Title 3 - is used to fund resource teachers, staff development, staff development, supplemental supplies and materials in language development for Migrant students(k-12).
  3. CBET - a community based training program that is used in training Migrant parents in assisting with the educational process at home with Migrant students.
  4. Title IV, Part A - Safe and Healthy Kids Program provides funding to develop, implement and evaluate a safe drug free learning environment for all students.
  5. EIA - Economic Impact Aid provides additional educational opportunities for children from low-income families from homes where a primary language other than English is spoken.
  6. ELD - English Learning Development for students who are non English speaking. This program assists with the learning development of students in their academics.
