The goal of the district's Migrant Program is to provide supplemental services to migrant students in the area of academics as well as with any health related matter. Additionally, we offer and extend services provided through the county office.

Program Descriptions

Regular School Year Objectives

Migrant Saturday School. Migrant Teachers working at these district sites: Eric White, Indianola, Lincoln Middle School and Wilson. The personnel working in either Saturday school or at the sites develop and utilize appropriate programs that will best provide the additional support needs to help students who are scoring basic or below on the CST's.

Summer School Objectives

k-6th migrant students who were not referred to district offered intervention summer school. Main emphasis is targeted on language skills, math skills and English language development.


I & R Process

Identification & Recruitment

Networking up school secretaries and nurses for new incoming students. Go over incoing kindergartener enrollees during district-wide kindergarten registration. During the summers, we canvas city areas where high farming families are moving in and out of the city. Attend health fairs or informational presentations done by outside agencies within the community.

Data is accumulated through the Edusoft program. Edusoft.com is available district-wide.

Health Support Services & Health Clinics

Migrant Clinics are 10-25-06 & 2-06-07.

Migrant Mobile Clinic will be stationed at parking lot located by Selma Regional Service Center.

Migrant nurse assigned to Selma District is Melinda Sisemore

Migrant Health Aide assigned to Selma District is Monica De La Cruz

Referrals can be done by parent, student's teacher or district nurse. Referrals can be sent to HSL or given directly to the Migrant Nurse for follow ups.

Other Programs

Title 1 intervention programs at the district sites. After school programs offered by several district sites via grants. Newcomers program offered to students new to the country. After school tutorials at the high school.


Professional Development

Migrant staff participates in all district staff development days. Examples of workshops/trainings attended include: Step Up to Writing, ELD workshops and Reading Comprehension.

Parents have been involved with trainings both in the district as well as though county regional Conferences, monthly RMPAL meetings, Passport program and other presentations conducted during MPAL meetings. Topics have included: Parent Participation, Self Esteem, Health, Gangs, the Effects of Alcohol and Tobacco.
