Program Descriptions

Regular School Year Objectives

The Westside School District is funded for the following services to the students: One Migrant clerk whose job is to keep accurate records of all Migrant students and one Migrant tutor/Liaison whose job is to make home visits and coordinate information with the Migrant clerk. The classroom teacher identifies migrant students during the regular school year that need the most help in Math, Language Arts and Reading and provides this information to the Migrant Tutor/Liaison who then compiles the information for analysis. The Migrant tutor also provides supplemental instruction to those migrant students in grade 7 and 8 identified as most at risk in the areas of Math, Language Arts and Reading.

Summer School Objectives

The Migrant Summer School program provides for a four-week summer school session Kindergarten thru Third grade. The program utilizes the regular school's curriculum. The district provides for a four-week mandatory summer school for all other students Fourth thru Seventh grade most at risk.

I & R Process

Identification & Recruitment

To recruit families we make telephone calls and or home visits. I & R recruiter works the regular school year-from August-June for two hours a day and during summer school June - July for four hours a day. There is only one I & R recruiter.

Assessment Tools

After receiving the test results from the different testing organizations the test coordinator and assistant input all test results into a database. The test results are compared to past years’ results and an educational plan for each migrant student is put in place.
