Parent Component

The Regional Migrant Parent Advisory Council consists of one representative from each of the 25 school districts. The Regional Parent Advisory Council (RPAC) participates in the planning, operation, and evaluation of the state Migrant Education program. RPAC membership shall be comprised of individuals who are knowledgeable of the needs of migrant children and shall be nominated and elected by the parents of migrant children enrolled in the operating agencies. At least two-thirds of the members of the RPAC shall be the parents of migrant children. The RPAC shall meet a minimum of six times a calendar year to provide input on issues relating to the operation of the program, as specified in California Education Code, Section 54444.2 (a)(2).

The Migrant Education Region IV’s Parent Component has an Annual Migrant Parent Conference held in October with more than 100 parents participating. The parent conference consists of many educational workshops which include but not limited to topics such as; social issues, health, family issues, state and educational guidelines. The program includes a guest and keynote speaker whose purpose is to motivate attendees to continue to be involved their child’s education.

The Annual State Migrant Parent Conference is held in the spring (usually in March). The function of this virtual conference is to develop parent skills so that they can share what they learn with other parents in their school districts.
